<br />
The whole place is trashed! I normally try to keep my sewing stuff to the left side of the dining room table, but I just have so many things going that I've migrated to the right. Family may not get a decent meal here until I leave for <a href="http://www.quiltcon.com/">QuiltCon</a>.<br />
<br />
I've been sewing up some new clothes. I know I don't really need any more, but it's kind of fun to make clothes where you'll be around people that will really get it. And any excuse to buy fabric is a good excuse. <br />
<br />
So far I've done one horrible muslin and scrapped that entire pattern. Then I went back to the old standby, the <a href="http://shop.made-by-rae.com/products/washi-dress">Washi Dress</a>. One needs a hem, and one is finished. I just have that <a href="http://www.michaelmillerfabrics.com/shop/collections/brambleberry-ridge-by-violet-craft.html">Brambleberry Ridge fabric</a> in the back there to go. I'm thinking of adding some short sleeves to it, just so they aren't all complete duplicates. <br />
<br />
And, I've thrown together a lanyard and a new business card holder. I'm debating whether I should make a new bag for Con, or just reuse one of the many I've already made. For now, I'll wait, but if I get the itch, I may end up elbows deep in interfacing in the middle of the night.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7JJyViPSebWU6h-EAmSKooYHLDwp9yk4eSjuTaLKoT7WqbwTZ-lweq7P6yVmGYseXXZpnZmZyt-xGsqtgVgfKgmdAIVispy0-Q7h0WlWALIzchjomDUV5DcLCJf50nQBnAZc3l8ykvPk/s1600/WIP+Isaac's%2Bgreen%2Bcardigan.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7JJyViPSebWU6h-EAmSKooYHLDwp9yk4eSjuTaLKoT7WqbwTZ-lweq7P6yVmGYseXXZpnZmZyt-xGsqtgVgfKgmdAIVispy0-Q7h0WlWALIzchjomDUV5DcLCJf50nQBnAZc3l8ykvPk/s1600/WIP+Isaac's%2Bgreen%2Bcardigan.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And when I'm not sewing these days, I've been working on this <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/corvallis-cardigan">Corvallis Cardigan</a> for my son. He's pretty excited about it and keeps checking in on my progress, but I'm so BORED of it! He just wanted a green sweater, so there's no stripes or color-changing yarn to keep me interested. And I realized too late that I should have put something in, a cable or an interesting stitch, but I didn't. <br />
<br />
I think at this point, I'm so close I just have to finish and remember for the next time. I'm so close to the bottom ribbing and then it's just sleeves. (Thank goodness this pattern has you knit the button band as you go, so that's one less step between me and finished!)<br />

<br />
I got an email a few months back from the <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/">Fat Quarter Shop</a> to try out one of their new patterns. I of course said yes. I picked out a layer cake of Rashida Coleman Hale's <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/moonlit-ten-by-tens">Moonlit </a>and an icy blue Bella Solids charm pack, then commenced some very secret sewing. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTircE1fv-qOGu1yXX6oKLPUil6uV1C_K0fBD3pvjnHSHINbW0EsgijjOQwNJSqbcltcJTvKA6t6bu3YzlmFbCFummgsUVsly83uvKDjFUXnGGMuB5S3P2ME8mACpEjAtZoOrAQcoQGJ0/s1600/Layers+of+charm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTircE1fv-qOGu1yXX6oKLPUil6uV1C_K0fBD3pvjnHSHINbW0EsgijjOQwNJSqbcltcJTvKA6t6bu3YzlmFbCFummgsUVsly83uvKDjFUXnGGMuB5S3P2ME8mACpEjAtZoOrAQcoQGJ0/s1600/Layers+of+charm.jpg" height="640" width="632" /></a></div>
<br />
The pattern is called <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orqjcGb-MAM&feature=youtu.be">Layers of Charm</a> (aw!) and you use one layer cake and one charm pack to make it. There's no cutting fabric, just sew charm to layer and trim. It went really fast and then I got to do the fun quilting part.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIYKLElwUzSp1h7eqH-QWj1T0I5fnjUZ4eTL50LY5738kORX4QWfwB6gIYYaKXB8EmZWmKSwXFd6qMoCn-iAFoKwFldj7BKoHViynUlyTcXiTEQlqtWZPmS7wNWxB6HaN8FJ-FWHojIlc/s1600/layers+of+charm+quilting+texture+on+metallic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIYKLElwUzSp1h7eqH-QWj1T0I5fnjUZ4eTL50LY5738kORX4QWfwB6gIYYaKXB8EmZWmKSwXFd6qMoCn-iAFoKwFldj7BKoHViynUlyTcXiTEQlqtWZPmS7wNWxB6HaN8FJ-FWHojIlc/s1600/layers+of+charm+quilting+texture+on+metallic.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
One of the great things about this quilt is that it's such a big blank palette for quilting! I loaded it up in the long arm thinking I would do some graffiti quilting, then had second guessing time where I pondered all the other ways I could quilt, then eventually went back to the graffiti. It's so much fun, and kind of like a crossword puzzle for quilters because of the thinking that goes into it. I love doing it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMKm7QbEZQa7h_DsJpD1UdacubvHh4huJfQU71DvQz8kTtKmG3v0pA3HSqrUZEsUZRJWP7GS4RmBi7LPZNhUuZihyynpVVZy2uR3cFYExmQx6fpvM-O7WUyD5lHfv5tmOyzAqfGnDLbZ8/s1600/Layers+of+Charm+white+block+quilting+detail.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMKm7QbEZQa7h_DsJpD1UdacubvHh4huJfQU71DvQz8kTtKmG3v0pA3HSqrUZEsUZRJWP7GS4RmBi7LPZNhUuZihyynpVVZy2uR3cFYExmQx6fpvM-O7WUyD5lHfv5tmOyzAqfGnDLbZ8/s1600/Layers+of+Charm+white+block+quilting+detail.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I've been cuddling under this quilt for a while. It's so fun to look at, because the quilting looks so different in all the big squares, some really highlight the quilting, and some squares let the fabric take focus. Every time I use it, I find something new to love.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_vn-0ZjybVvLHlt5Gkkzc8QGGuUqBhXDEbshdFeWK7Gq2aZFqkej5JzRc0LRqYBt55iE43uDO4MDIcJ-WXQNuIvQxvmQxVT-W272As3FTfnfZXxQ1TlGe64Bf-ybGc_kE0O17mkJvyAM/s1600/Layers+of+Charm+quilt+back+texture.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_vn-0ZjybVvLHlt5Gkkzc8QGGuUqBhXDEbshdFeWK7Gq2aZFqkej5JzRc0LRqYBt55iE43uDO4MDIcJ-WXQNuIvQxvmQxVT-W272As3FTfnfZXxQ1TlGe64Bf-ybGc_kE0O17mkJvyAM/s1600/Layers+of+Charm+quilt+back+texture.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
For the back, I pulled out my stash of Ikea Britten Nummer. I found it in a store last summer and rationalized buying ten yards. This was the first time I convinced myself to pull it out. It's a pretty thin fabric, but very silky, so the quilt is more for summer night cuddling rather than winter polar vortex cuddling, but I do it anyway.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXdSpopWtebD8IO1mgmqYSLLPopZqyP7NM88nmnmHgE_uYPI3ID80egQ1reDgyef-0Ru-9EO0L-p7foMuKR_YSFLmIXjKl5U0HMwEUVtqaOaCrxR1prv2Ddi43PDhgpSmhSMwceKgiIvU/s1600/Layers+of+Charm+quilt+binding.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXdSpopWtebD8IO1mgmqYSLLPopZqyP7NM88nmnmHgE_uYPI3ID80egQ1reDgyef-0Ru-9EO0L-p7foMuKR_YSFLmIXjKl5U0HMwEUVtqaOaCrxR1prv2Ddi43PDhgpSmhSMwceKgiIvU/s1600/Layers+of+Charm+quilt+binding.jpg" height="340" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And the binding is super scrappy, cut from a handful of Cotton and steel fat quarters I had in my stash. So many seams, but it's so fun.<br />

<br />
I was so excited to get my partner's information for the Schnitzel and Boo Swap. She seemed pretty much my quilty twin, so I decided to just make something that I would love to receive. <br />
<br />
On the long list of designers that we had in common, Tula Pink was right on top. And I just happened to have been hoarding a pile of Tula from my time working at a fabric store. I pulled a fun pile of all my blues, purples, and teals, yellow for a pop of color, and added in my raccoons. She also loved Anna Maria Horner, and I needed some navies, so I added the feathers and coordinates. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL3SdRnZIfERmdAy_ZLHx4dhQqUfIfYhDj3dYHXhZHjvhTfTnpj_cuODnMyqmuMASkyl5ZiXItHQRLCFnNjy6mWmob2RgP62wrD_q3onNBcshgJk9x6AFbu7824qeUMqJOBpzdqkJ6FxU/s1600/schnitzel+and+boo+tula+pink+mini+quilt+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL3SdRnZIfERmdAy_ZLHx4dhQqUfIfYhDj3dYHXhZHjvhTfTnpj_cuODnMyqmuMASkyl5ZiXItHQRLCFnNjy6mWmob2RgP62wrD_q3onNBcshgJk9x6AFbu7824qeUMqJOBpzdqkJ6FxU/s1600/schnitzel+and+boo+tula+pink+mini+quilt+2.jpg" height="443" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the block I would make. I've loved minis where the blocks make secondary patterns where they meet, so I scoured the internet. At first I thought I would do nine blocks that were six or seven inches square, but then I found this block and decided that it would look cooler with just four blocks. Also, the center would be perfect for the raccoons if the block was bigger.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJDUsuKZmDu6KrFD04daXG90pZiBBkWcFbiB0s9qKU8CI1Ev4YPFTGnPj4_kWY74fEfe2pvs-XMwGa5CWkeGT7MLP8D-2SrkU9LZsnWXPtfSWLNLLTAfkdkJm-932HB56HK5fFWPQQ300/s1600/schnitzel+and+boo+tula+pink+mini+quilt+label.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJDUsuKZmDu6KrFD04daXG90pZiBBkWcFbiB0s9qKU8CI1Ev4YPFTGnPj4_kWY74fEfe2pvs-XMwGa5CWkeGT7MLP8D-2SrkU9LZsnWXPtfSWLNLLTAfkdkJm-932HB56HK5fFWPQQ300/s1600/schnitzel+and+boo+tula+pink+mini+quilt+label.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I went a little crazy with the quilting. When it's such a small space to quilt it's pretty tempting to quilt all the little spaces to death, which I did. I only left the raccoon alone because I couldn't figure out how to quilt them. And once it was all done, I thought it looked nice without quilting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1Or-eVpexTFflfjl7pUlptBNyDTAUFb4AqHQUj3U-pmCqFUhPD4ZUkwniUCqNTS4H0bLSrOZa2Tg1LR6fJqYSY4ZAOKayaWhM9aFV2wxc4g78rEwZZEHvFWwNMKnelJwFQpVR50zNCBc/s1600/Schnitzel+and+boo+latifah+saafir+big+o+mini+quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1Or-eVpexTFflfjl7pUlptBNyDTAUFb4AqHQUj3U-pmCqFUhPD4ZUkwniUCqNTS4H0bLSrOZa2Tg1LR6fJqYSY4ZAOKayaWhM9aFV2wxc4g78rEwZZEHvFWwNMKnelJwFQpVR50zNCBc/s1600/Schnitzel+and+boo+latifah+saafir+big+o+mini+quilt.jpg" height="460" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And here's the mini I received. My partner saw that I loved Latifah Saafir and when she looked into her, my partner fell in love with the Big O quilt. I love the idea of passing on quilt inspiration! She did a really great job; it's bright and graphic and has my favorite Carolyn Friedlander print all over it! Can't wait to figure out where I'm putting my mini wall so I can hang all my new minis.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
So it snowed all day yesterday. Sure everyone knows about the blizzard, and everyone got snow, but it never stopped! I don't think we've ever had a storm that didn't at least take a 20 minute break in the midst of snowing. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWUb2IBVboonZPzv2_LHr_x-0KxUgj4tD2NMjNgXHvxvQLFEm8EmqoDw0DUgr0Bzwiu6FRZ2evb1Hefwg5VvmFZbDTs8xaY5qPHzcFjUxLPlx-G6aU4appheK4Dyk4jV4NsX_kBlssszs/s1600/Adelle+in+snow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWUb2IBVboonZPzv2_LHr_x-0KxUgj4tD2NMjNgXHvxvQLFEm8EmqoDw0DUgr0Bzwiu6FRZ2evb1Hefwg5VvmFZbDTs8xaY5qPHzcFjUxLPlx-G6aU4appheK4Dyk4jV4NsX_kBlssszs/s1600/Adelle+in+snow.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Yesterday, while we were all penned into the house, I managed to get a binding done and a bunch of pressing but today I decided it was quilting day! Last night I pulled backing and batting and got it all loaded up on the long arm so I could just start as soon as the coffee kicked in.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaELNakQf4-kkIERrXysRbZKcfetl8V6-dx2l-ai3QZJnDE3CQpWezNWIHE2zKeOt9sIjEW45JoXqcFzGRwEkYTXBUnWc3JiHSp7vPnZuvg1Y5MqnB36qRhcgpAZLomUMi339Qoq1nMAo/s1600/long+arm+graffiti+quilting+handiquilter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaELNakQf4-kkIERrXysRbZKcfetl8V6-dx2l-ai3QZJnDE3CQpWezNWIHE2zKeOt9sIjEW45JoXqcFzGRwEkYTXBUnWc3JiHSp7vPnZuvg1Y5MqnB36qRhcgpAZLomUMi339Qoq1nMAo/s1600/long+arm+graffiti+quilting+handiquilter.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And of course I waffled about how to quilt it. I spent an hour scrolling through Instagram, then watched video after video on YouTube, then flipped through my sketchbook. I finally just decided to do more graffiti quilting practice. (Which was my first idea, so I don't know why I didn't just trust my gut instead of wasting hours.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixnRsTNlUF8SMKijzcAwd6T7lUMxBIjnlH6OIixNKhD-WM2wagxsPI1IGOTLw3Luz3TvMjGJ7MxlVsRPY5xiEufsaSbb5Gb3Ox-Vv1I7gZpr1OXyb1emXqAoaXFczjj3VvqZnhHX5q6w8/s1600/Graffiti+quilting+feathers+on+Matchsticks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixnRsTNlUF8SMKijzcAwd6T7lUMxBIjnlH6OIixNKhD-WM2wagxsPI1IGOTLw3Luz3TvMjGJ7MxlVsRPY5xiEufsaSbb5Gb3Ox-Vv1I7gZpr1OXyb1emXqAoaXFczjj3VvqZnhHX5q6w8/s1600/Graffiti+quilting+feathers+on+Matchsticks.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Luckily, once you get started, it's pretty easy to just keep going. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5ZvqkgyV0o5aGjM88Rhu4froiL_AofHBK7EVjLgKx5Vzvjl0vBKUGLMAHIKmp3VrKjFkP1vtBWoYZf6BlIfCd-y6CQ_0cQzqGdIfnNr7DoeUSqVoq1Zr7z25STqUM85ucfnvBYx2iY9U/s1600/graffiti+quilting+spikes+and+swirls.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5ZvqkgyV0o5aGjM88Rhu4froiL_AofHBK7EVjLgKx5Vzvjl0vBKUGLMAHIKmp3VrKjFkP1vtBWoYZf6BlIfCd-y6CQ_0cQzqGdIfnNr7DoeUSqVoq1Zr7z25STqUM85ucfnvBYx2iY9U/s1600/graffiti+quilting+spikes+and+swirls.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And one more picture of the snow. Lucky has decided she likes the snow in the North better than the heat of the South!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I've had <a href="http://jeliquilts.blogspot.com/2014/07/postcard-from-sweden-aka-ikea-hst-quilt.html">this quilt by JeliQuilts</a> pinned since she made it. I loved the colors. I loved that it was based on something from Ikea. I have a thing for triangles. Basically, I've just been waiting for the chance to make one of my own. So when it was my turn to pick a block for my do. Good stitches group, I thought this would be perfect.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4GWw-uyf2FdR76O4ZncYSnw_MYCfZE6bu9WoDO6LZTU9TZD1UsbPma44OOSX-nkNyBrBNdEnGTk1bNydLf1ibMzABMqwzKFcEk6LcyrMttmplajWG2ssqaaSiTMdi2vJZZGer7KQBKLA/s1600/do+good+stitches+hsts+quilt+full.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4GWw-uyf2FdR76O4ZncYSnw_MYCfZE6bu9WoDO6LZTU9TZD1UsbPma44OOSX-nkNyBrBNdEnGTk1bNydLf1ibMzABMqwzKFcEk6LcyrMttmplajWG2ssqaaSiTMdi2vJZZGer7KQBKLA/s1600/do+good+stitches+hsts+quilt+full.jpg" height="374" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I asked each member to make a block of nine HSTs in warm and cool colors. I requested solids, but any saturated, tone on tone print that read as a solid would do. While they were doing that, I made a pile of single HSTs that I used to blend the two groups together.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL-ZKV94gW3Qe_A_gBtS9j240ew7PkZzsFv46tfCQUnZhzCQs2pz0o-eFeJf8A_5AcGNQDMgurKxmpvNtUrVAOzptcV6c608uERxL48vo5VO7OQeUvQa-Lp7PWgujFhxEs3bo_6f-viJk/s1600/do+good+stitches+hst+quilt+hanging.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL-ZKV94gW3Qe_A_gBtS9j240ew7PkZzsFv46tfCQUnZhzCQs2pz0o-eFeJf8A_5AcGNQDMgurKxmpvNtUrVAOzptcV6c608uERxL48vo5VO7OQeUvQa-Lp7PWgujFhxEs3bo_6f-viJk/s1600/do+good+stitches+hst+quilt+hanging.jpg" height="640" width="446" /></a></div>
<br />
Once I had the top pieced, I sent a picture to the group's Flickr page. We're putting on a special exhibit at QuiltCon, and I just knew this quilt would have a good chance of being selected. Luckily, it was! So I had to get it quilted and finished so I could send it in time for the show. <br />
<br />
I struggled with what do do for the quilting. The triangles are so angular, so I wanted to do something curvy to offset that, but I wanted something that I would be able to accomplish quickly and successfully. Somehow, this pattern of tall archy squiggles popped into my head. (if anyone can think of a better name, you'll win a gold star.) <br />
<br />
I love that the straight lines don't take away from all those triagles, but because the squiggles are of random length, it's fun to look at. I can't wait to see it hanging in Austin.<br />
<br />

<br />
I spent a lot of time being a mini swap avoider. I just didn't get the appeal. I would join fabric swaps and block bees, but why would I want a mini? (It's not like I enjoy quilts and have an abundance of blank walls in my house.) <br />
<br />
That was until I saw all the awesome things that were being made during the second round of the Schnitzel and Boo swap. Seriously, every single mini was awesome and I wanted them all. But it was too late for that swap, and while I was being sad, the IG Mini Swap started up. I signed up immediately!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXvZbJv8ghQ9kKvqUbhZLF29FEAfYmQkzKX4XHp6tySTalv6UEx-hi5-0HX_sGmudtBe2z0SPgTFDSs7z1Gz3HNKcAqZJ7JsKZG0JyJT_ca5_tHM6HPTb9svI-1dFswePI5Op9Y3KarE0/s1600/IG+mini+quilt+swap+finish.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXvZbJv8ghQ9kKvqUbhZLF29FEAfYmQkzKX4XHp6tySTalv6UEx-hi5-0HX_sGmudtBe2z0SPgTFDSs7z1Gz3HNKcAqZJ7JsKZG0JyJT_ca5_tHM6HPTb9svI-1dFswePI5Op9Y3KarE0/s1600/IG+mini+quilt+swap+finish.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
After a stressful wait, I finally got my partner's info. I was a little bummed, because she wasn't one of those super active Instagrammers. I worried that I wouldn't have enough to go on, but I started pulling together some ideas. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL6MoJxEdkYXnCVChkUOJxDxyrVne4uv9tQ2jIkJsKi7iLHWnywEvfMc8c3Bc9mdimmvd6So9dl9S611Sn2-HktHwf19rGG8aaBYkVH_Sm1F7meGX-uagkwzoE-ih6mCmxucWtfZkjhcw/s1600/IG+mini+swap+quilt+texture.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL6MoJxEdkYXnCVChkUOJxDxyrVne4uv9tQ2jIkJsKi7iLHWnywEvfMc8c3Bc9mdimmvd6So9dl9S611Sn2-HktHwf19rGG8aaBYkVH_Sm1F7meGX-uagkwzoE-ih6mCmxucWtfZkjhcw/s1600/IG+mini+swap+quilt+texture.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
My partner liked aqua and gold, triangles, asymmetry, and her website looked very clean and modern. So I pulled all of my gold and aqua fabrics, added some gray for good measure. I went with a cream for a background color, because the white just looked to harsh.<br />
<br />
I sketched out a doodle of this, then cut triangles out of paper that were the size that I wanted. I laid that triangle on the fabric and cut 1/4 inch past the paper triangle, stitched them together in rows and was shocked that it seemed to work. There are a few spots where I lost triangle sides, but I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp7O4K_F3XZxr-SqQZ9W_qhuzxmsqL3b2OId_zHLIUtNxju4La6bTk86Zynv3x2lzKQV0HghM0wdMCG_IXcvTulddd3HkPRYgJRzCTZdkXz57cKF57qfpGOT_azsi2OpAFwBgnnOwdVII/s1600/IG+mini+quilt+swap+quilting+texture.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp7O4K_F3XZxr-SqQZ9W_qhuzxmsqL3b2OId_zHLIUtNxju4La6bTk86Zynv3x2lzKQV0HghM0wdMCG_IXcvTulddd3HkPRYgJRzCTZdkXz57cKF57qfpGOT_azsi2OpAFwBgnnOwdVII/s1600/IG+mini+quilt+swap+quilting+texture.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I bought some heavier gold and aqua thread with the plan that I would background quilt in white and then do some hand stitching in color, but once I had the mini basted, I just didn't like that idea anymore. Instead, I went with wavy lines over the whole thing, mostly with the white, but with stripes of the gold and aqua threads here and there. When I was done, I realized it was wind blowing over mountains! Aw!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRr4erfO1H4KlzkWPwzTxQ-RurdoUBE4QyfJRO2sIVwU4OpR7qSpLZyXpfMl9tbpLUgOg3Hh78RyrAQMxQWK_pNvekzLNbIXOieVNC8zrv8yaV1K0VnYhjqOvRKPIspLu8lNwm4QAjoCw/s1600/IG+Mini+swap+quilt+label.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRr4erfO1H4KlzkWPwzTxQ-RurdoUBE4QyfJRO2sIVwU4OpR7qSpLZyXpfMl9tbpLUgOg3Hh78RyrAQMxQWK_pNvekzLNbIXOieVNC8zrv8yaV1K0VnYhjqOvRKPIspLu8lNwm4QAjoCw/s1600/IG+Mini+swap+quilt+label.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Now this mini has a home on the wall in my partner's sewing space. It perfectly matches her wall, and it looks very happy there.<br />

So my job today is to get these quilts bound. Both are gifts that are long overdue, though no one is expecting them, so no one knows they're so late! Ha! <br />
<br />
There's also QuiltCon supplies to gather, more quilts to quilt, and swap extras to make before popping my <a href="http://www.schnitzelandboo.com/2014/11/schnitzel-boo-mini-quilt-swap-round.html">Schnitzel and Boo mini</a> in the mail. So I'll probably just go and get to it!<br />

It's that Christmas crafting rush, but mine starts before Thanksgiving, and then I'm just pooped. I make things, but just don't feel doing the last step, blogging them. Luckily, I kept up with the photographing, so now that I have my mojo back, I still have pictures of stuff that I've sent away. <br />
<br />
So now I can show you what I was up to when I was away!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVsza5lSp17RSkdf2OHPlGDp4UnviZHuKkCewD4SutCQI5p9ssvchfC-mPxUVsgAXmflBR9139hkgiK-UmU2WVlnU5gjAikXfe3cWdN85iLKvLs3qgwHtiugy8JJOI_qfH_UyR-FHx5eY/s1600/Round+Trip+quilts+bee+flying+geese.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVsza5lSp17RSkdf2OHPlGDp4UnviZHuKkCewD4SutCQI5p9ssvchfC-mPxUVsgAXmflBR9139hkgiK-UmU2WVlnU5gjAikXfe3cWdN85iLKvLs3qgwHtiugy8JJOI_qfH_UyR-FHx5eY/s1600/Round+Trip+quilts+bee+flying+geese.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
This was the second center I've worked on for our Round Trip Quilts Bee. (The first one is <a href="http://seemaryquilt.blogspot.com/2014/09/friday-finish-round-trip-quilts.html">here</a>.) Jenn, from <a href="http://neverjustjennifer.blogspot.com/">Never Just Jennifer</a>, and I was in love with it the second she posted it to Instagram. I was glad I didn't have to wait long to get my hands on it.<br />
<br />
She's a fellow New Hampshire-ite, and wanted a quilt that was all about our awesome state. Her notebook was full of great ideas, like those maple leaves, mountains, snowflakes, and flying geese. I got this at the height of geese migration when all the fields are full of flocks coming and going, so I had to do some flying geese. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgty19I9oJ3jn9e5OpAWkFta_27Sdi_scQK6Vvf1cDR9nDCD3Df__HUPbxJDuarQhR3RsC0wW1wGgLnp9VCZGn2UWb98xrVLUlmv285PUUuFOgS7hq7acwfD-bQ3AKj3USDxp46g1saSdg/s1600/Round+Trip+quilt+bee+flying+geese+close+up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgty19I9oJ3jn9e5OpAWkFta_27Sdi_scQK6Vvf1cDR9nDCD3Df__HUPbxJDuarQhR3RsC0wW1wGgLnp9VCZGn2UWb98xrVLUlmv285PUUuFOgS7hq7acwfD-bQ3AKj3USDxp46g1saSdg/s1600/Round+Trip+quilt+bee+flying+geese+close+up.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I first added that strip of red to tie in the red maple leaves <a href="http://devotedquilter.blogspot.com/">Leanne </a>had added and then started pulling all my bright and low volume scraps to make the geese. I really didn't have a solid plan or pattern, just made geese in a bunch of sizes, then moved them around until I got a pattern I liked. (My one regret, is that pointed the geese flying out of the corner, and not into it in proper flying "v" formation. Next time!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQQ8TdXDP7hxUOOhg0o43_Eho-lSxtQ8dy0CAO90X2Z3zrIDu2-bIvMlhQV7k65xzYOCqG8hE3cI7a3gdKlscmpUqKMm7H3r1jxy7M1TVLOzBrdvxo-bWz9lTl-dXFSigGDl_lfqMmD2I/s1600/Round+Trip+Quilts+Bee+corner+flying+geese.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQQ8TdXDP7hxUOOhg0o43_Eho-lSxtQ8dy0CAO90X2Z3zrIDu2-bIvMlhQV7k65xzYOCqG8hE3cI7a3gdKlscmpUqKMm7H3r1jxy7M1TVLOzBrdvxo-bWz9lTl-dXFSigGDl_lfqMmD2I/s1600/Round+Trip+Quilts+Bee+corner+flying+geese.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The last step was the corner. Red again to mirror that red maple leaf, and some Anna Maria Horner blue. It's called Migratory Lace, so I kind of had to use it prominently, and it reminds me of trail maps, and NH has some great hiking and skiing trails!<br />
<br />
I love this one, and can't wait to see what happens to it next!<br />

*** Congrats to lucky number 109, Sandra! Your Scrap Packs are on their way! ***</div>
<br />
<br />
It's that time of year again! <a href="http://www.sewmamasew.com/">Sew Mama Sew's Giveaway Day</a>! I love visiting all the blogs, finding new ones to follow, and the chance of winning some great stuff doesn't hurt. And once again, I'm pretty excited to get to join in myself. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoq9PkDCxe3PGQedJkxD0VlYWfeB25E1E3QR4PIBEP8Fs_UQsQct_mSCBwFQrvwGyE16i0m0PB6hYvGenHYnM6D8E0t8tvYP5lRn_Jihvmu637N0flDk2BZLYhPwHfZzRPk1x3XrTtVps/s1600/giveawaydaydec8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoq9PkDCxe3PGQedJkxD0VlYWfeB25E1E3QR4PIBEP8Fs_UQsQct_mSCBwFQrvwGyE16i0m0PB6hYvGenHYnM6D8E0t8tvYP5lRn_Jihvmu637N0flDk2BZLYhPwHfZzRPk1x3XrTtVps/s1600/giveawaydaydec8.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
So if you've visited before, you probably know all about my love of scraps (and if you're new, welcome!). I love looking into the bin and seeing all the colors. It's so much fun to mix and match because you can pull a little bit of everything out, without emptying all the shelves of fabric. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJer6Dur7Epy5BbOwaUR2iDgoUN1l0M3Lmx4gXDfVvm5_mv1FFpR-Gb4oIwDez7TpI7hFFPADkhqPizKk-tdt8Eac-DDuVGpmlUwU_QOswFG9wxhz9Y_nUgyqF6_zzyyR5CEQ5pd7yfTI/s1600/DSC_0048+edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJer6Dur7Epy5BbOwaUR2iDgoUN1l0M3Lmx4gXDfVvm5_mv1FFpR-Gb4oIwDez7TpI7hFFPADkhqPizKk-tdt8Eac-DDuVGpmlUwU_QOswFG9wxhz9Y_nUgyqF6_zzyyR5CEQ5pd7yfTI/s1600/DSC_0048+edit.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
This is a picture of the bin months ago (though the working bin, not the bin I've given up on. And not the mini scrap bucket, because those have a home elsewehere). It's gotten more packed and I don't even bother trying to force the lid on, but I get really excited when I finish a project using only these little bits!<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I have totally fallen in love with needle turn applique. I've always loved a good hand stitching project, and these projects have turned out a lot easier to do than I thought and I can stitch shapes that I like without having to deal with machine sewing curves. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAhyphenhyphenNqG0QjnXucW3m8S3nTrGHXuuWMW-yttGHWagmq3XpjVElsIroirtanDzvwh2EChO0tQh3wb33NUT0vvuHx_enwR4AwxQqZkc70kDLQRzez0gcb-waUTacbzoxlDaZaR40m1q157Bc/s1600/Savor-Each-Stitch_Cover_Carolyn-Friedlander_581px.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAhyphenhyphenNqG0QjnXucW3m8S3nTrGHXuuWMW-yttGHWagmq3XpjVElsIroirtanDzvwh2EChO0tQh3wb33NUT0vvuHx_enwR4AwxQqZkc70kDLQRzez0gcb-waUTacbzoxlDaZaR40m1q157Bc/s320/Savor-Each-Stitch_Cover_Carolyn-Friedlander_581px.jpg" width="251" /></a></div>
<br />
Our guild (Seacoast Modern!!) had a mini swap with another guild. The theme was a "Sense of Place" which completely threw me for a long time. I seriously would try to figure out what I would make, brain would turn to mush, and I'd avoid thinking about it with a different project. <br />
<br />
Then, I bought a copy of <a href="http://carolynfriedlander.com/products/savor-each-stitch-studio-quilting-with-mindful-design/">Savor Each Stitch by Carolyn Friedlander</a>. I was completely hooked by this book; great projects, a good read, and pretty colors. So I tried to see if one of the minis in the book would apply to the swap challenge. One of the best thing about the seacoast is the beach, and one of my kids' favorite things to do is find pretty shells, rocks, or sea glass, and Aerial Grove kind of reminded me of pebbles lined up on the beach.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-eKEHzEKTC9qQcCTQfYYXOXxcFS4w2y3uVgkcgRGOvqY2jo4zfH6w1DhMskI5GCW71bPd3S_HCPgwaWi2fbc5COxGjyw1k9PWzdD4u1X_mX5FKxd64SE3FzynM4264rDU-McNdMTzThU/s1600/Carolyn+Friedlander+Aerial+Grove+Seashore+Mini+Pebbles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-eKEHzEKTC9qQcCTQfYYXOXxcFS4w2y3uVgkcgRGOvqY2jo4zfH6w1DhMskI5GCW71bPd3S_HCPgwaWi2fbc5COxGjyw1k9PWzdD4u1X_mX5FKxd64SE3FzynM4264rDU-McNdMTzThU/s640/Carolyn+Friedlander+Aerial+Grove+Seashore+Mini+Pebbles.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
So I pulled a rainbow of scraps and started stitching them down to my "sand" fabric. I had thought to put them upright as a center column with blue ocean to the right and green grass to the left, but it just looked to busy, so blue ocean won. I used lighter colors close to the sand to get a waves crashing effect. Then I quilted it all over with a wave pattern.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once I finished that mini, I started right up on one that I would get to keep. I think in the new year, I'm going to start work on a whole quilt of needle turn, as my big 2015 project. </div>

Good One<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
So August was my turn again to lead our circle, and I wanted something a bit easier than my first (Pyramid Scheme turned out great, but was a bit more work than I realized). So while I was scanning Flickr and Instagram for ideas, I came across <a href="http://jeliquilts.blogspot.com/2014/10/bloggers-quilt-festival-postcards-from.html">this quilt by Jeliquilts</a>. I loved it, and figured blocks of half square triangles had to be easier.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirOm-KrO3ltkYP2XD6INQiPiYXKhHw1CVY-AmE4yQuYVsCBrm9ObliXf8t5DYh7NkCtlzw6hNO52knChscCFo4jw-udRr_Mnu6x1_BKok4KXpDxisYJXeD-1AcgHrnyjV4XhbbmMa3VVU/s1600/Solids+HST+Quilt+Flimsy+do.+Good+Stitches.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirOm-KrO3ltkYP2XD6INQiPiYXKhHw1CVY-AmE4yQuYVsCBrm9ObliXf8t5DYh7NkCtlzw6hNO52knChscCFo4jw-udRr_Mnu6x1_BKok4KXpDxisYJXeD-1AcgHrnyjV4XhbbmMa3VVU/s640/Solids+HST+Quilt+Flimsy+do.+Good+Stitches.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
All my bee-mates sent a nine-patch of warm HSTs and cool HSTs. I waited until I got the blocks in, then made single HSTs and made strips of them to better blend the line between warm and cool. I'm hoping to get to the quilting this weekend, but I was to excited to not share an early picture of the top (and also get it in to be eligible for showing at QuiltCon 2015!).<br />

<br />
Also in the works this week, was getting these blocks done. They're for the October round of do. Good, but I'm just a tad behind, but they're in the mail!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVc20VSaEmCNimUeCD6de625g4tqBQ2BiioKo4kQ5CpvIwEZ0iJiAGmmp2K3tQnneJrt4wNm370x5T0EG9eBpkgWRr52A3CqNI3uGd60YaLZ2hkJqC3VRhwrdSzsD1nqZkMQYEa1ImnDg/s1600/Knit+Wristwarmers+Diamond+Mitts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVc20VSaEmCNimUeCD6de625g4tqBQ2BiioKo4kQ5CpvIwEZ0iJiAGmmp2K3tQnneJrt4wNm370x5T0EG9eBpkgWRr52A3CqNI3uGd60YaLZ2hkJqC3VRhwrdSzsD1nqZkMQYEa1ImnDg/s640/Knit+Wristwarmers+Diamond+Mitts.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And that pile of yarn from last week, I finished one cowl out of it, then started on some <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/endpaper-mitts">Endpaper Mitts</a>, realized there wasn't enough contrast to see the pattern, ripped it all back, and started these <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/diamond-hand-mitts">Diamond Mitts</a>. They're a really quick knit, especially because I cut down the ribbing quite a bit, so I'm hoping to have them done by the end of the week when the weather really gets cold.<br />

<br />
Here's an old finish for Finish It Up Friday. I'd finished this quilt a while ago, but didn't want to over share it in case the new owners decided to check my blog. You never know, and never want to ruin a surprise. Anyway, I downloaded the pictures to the computer and completely forgot about them until a few days ago when I decided to tidy up my folders. Yay!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW254RdAqKfbQcifYQYixlDVTBIdWDx16dx4hupR3MI1jgqBEreN0IMghKV6Rdh85fVeNkjQbl-1bIH_0BGtMijc8EvReGLESTiYLf4FigfQLV4NcIJfTPtPXokflR6mxpWj_KEykgq7k/s1600/Chicopee+Plus+Quilt+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW254RdAqKfbQcifYQYixlDVTBIdWDx16dx4hupR3MI1jgqBEreN0IMghKV6Rdh85fVeNkjQbl-1bIH_0BGtMijc8EvReGLESTiYLf4FigfQLV4NcIJfTPtPXokflR6mxpWj_KEykgq7k/s1600/Chicopee+Plus+Quilt+2.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This was a kind of joint collaboration between my mother and I, one of my cousins got married recently and she decided that a quilt would be the perfect present. Luckily, I was already thinking about a quilt, so she helped me with some of the supplies and then let me have free rein. <br />
<br />
I went with Denyse Schmidt's Chicopee line because it just works together, but seems to have a little of all the colors. I wasn't sure what my cousin would like, so I wanted to give them all of them, in a way that wouldn't blow their eyes out. And Chicopee does this really weird thing where it's loud and subtle, masculine and feminine, large prints and small prints, retro and modern. I don't know how it's possible, probably magic. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFxJ2IFPkcQ3jNsegDF1s5Gni7CN1BaVVrGByi4NhQ5w9vK7j78dlA54C4p4fAmnqL4YGvm5gNh4dTOfmcfYojlHEp330bYDKKE8nSnqWEi95WDonc-Gfx4cersnrRaiJ7WYGyiFc9thg/s1600/Chicopee+Plus+Quilt+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFxJ2IFPkcQ3jNsegDF1s5Gni7CN1BaVVrGByi4NhQ5w9vK7j78dlA54C4p4fAmnqL4YGvm5gNh4dTOfmcfYojlHEp330bYDKKE8nSnqWEi95WDonc-Gfx4cersnrRaiJ7WYGyiFc9thg/s1600/Chicopee+Plus+Quilt+1.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
I modified a pattern for neutral pluses on print backgounds, though for the life of me I can't remember which pattern I used. And I'm really glad that I gave all those prints some room to breath. Bonus, it gave me a lot of negative space to quilt! <br />
<br />
I used Aurifil Spring Green and a discontinued Isacord in teal. I would quilt a little in one color, then switch when I got bored. The effect is subtle on the Essex Yarn Dyed Black linen, kind of like green and teal shadows. (I really wish I'd gotten better pictures, but it was a rainy week, and my only chance for photos was a half hour window at the reception when it wasn't pouring, on the soaking wet ground.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6DaesMK1H2qp2Wwod67RkaurbHP6hDMM5JnEVaRg5MABpWCSB9gonmXXNWnjBREpdaggEkqv2j4evjgw4DELux7ESCOOF_AEr_ZiFpsWbBXKxcSQGt15rdmdEatyfniI6oy_9i5_SOwE/s1600/Chicopee+Plus+Quilt+Quilting+stars.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6DaesMK1H2qp2Wwod67RkaurbHP6hDMM5JnEVaRg5MABpWCSB9gonmXXNWnjBREpdaggEkqv2j4evjgw4DELux7ESCOOF_AEr_ZiFpsWbBXKxcSQGt15rdmdEatyfniI6oy_9i5_SOwE/s1600/Chicopee+Plus+Quilt+Quilting+stars.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I rotated between a handful of quilting patterns in the pluses, all in, more or less, coordinating thread. This star pattern ended up being one of my favorites, that will get put into the usual rotation. It's super fun, and doesn't have to be exact to look nice.<br />

<br />
Last night a friend came over because I wanted to wind two hanks that I was planning on knitting into another warm and fuzzy cowl. But once you have the swift and winder set up, you might as well ball every hank in the house. I knew about two of these, but apparently I subconsciously hoard yarn, so I kept pulling hanks out of bins in my sewing area. Surprise! <br />
<br />
And, yes, those pinks are as neon as they look.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNpOezTmUnmxqeMGNTSu76ggpwuLv3bWtRVBv37hWGa4y7mkZsSSwuUX4R7f_Le-3kDVsCAecaStydt7zfhJljDR0uAtd4Fn7VZWwbvVKOMhr-bEazq-d_ndnD6aZl0z5iE9eWxPUeXrw/s1600/Seed+Stitch+Cowl+.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNpOezTmUnmxqeMGNTSu76ggpwuLv3bWtRVBv37hWGa4y7mkZsSSwuUX4R7f_Le-3kDVsCAecaStydt7zfhJljDR0uAtd4Fn7VZWwbvVKOMhr-bEazq-d_ndnD6aZl0z5iE9eWxPUeXrw/s1600/Seed+Stitch+Cowl+.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
So today, I'm knitting up the two balls that started it all. They're a really strange color. It's chartreuse, and fuchsia, and lilac. Pretty much so ugly it's pretty again. And it's Malabrigo, so it's super soft. The pattern is <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/thirty-eight">Thirty-Eight by Jane Cochran on Ravelry</a>. It's all seed stitch and ribbing, which is not my favorite way to knit, but I love the texture, so I'm stuck with it. <br /><br />

Oh hi there! Remember me? I used to write a blog? Yeah, instead, I've just been sitting at home sewing and knitting without you. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUYWJn08yfudyz8jBTAzliDUeHvs2mkg8WAPiJWmIDP7cHQOnN59KRZOlWML4OWlAACrXJFJ8Zgvy0H9V_HZNiqSzDNiSBWqHzlT6ws7lQw4Bv0saUgCx-pvJwFqx1UTGBvUiIEOxBI5w/s1600/Honey+Cowl+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUYWJn08yfudyz8jBTAzliDUeHvs2mkg8WAPiJWmIDP7cHQOnN59KRZOlWML4OWlAACrXJFJ8Zgvy0H9V_HZNiqSzDNiSBWqHzlT6ws7lQw4Bv0saUgCx-pvJwFqx1UTGBvUiIEOxBI5w/s1600/Honey+Cowl+1.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Well, anyway, today I decided to just get back at it. I looked down, and there was my <a href="http://madelinetosh.com/store/index.php/honey-cowl.html">Honey Cowl</a>, all fuzzy, warm, and unblogged! Perfect! I tossed it on the girl, grabbed my camera, and made grand promises about leaving a bag of Halloween candy unprotected on the table (models always demand candy in their green rooms).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDV3kLLESGE3nAUzH7HUNSIGzq6_g_pJRJlv-kqciM9-beBE1-Ig5R8q_Su6BhqdOJpLpXM79r6Do9l2Si2VV9PkTkEjcauXZbzXRvkPCnR31o3lWQkzZAi4pVcOUy6B4VkWh7A5jJLvE/s1600/honey+cowl+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDV3kLLESGE3nAUzH7HUNSIGzq6_g_pJRJlv-kqciM9-beBE1-Ig5R8q_Su6BhqdOJpLpXM79r6Do9l2Si2VV9PkTkEjcauXZbzXRvkPCnR31o3lWQkzZAi4pVcOUy6B4VkWh7A5jJLvE/s1600/honey+cowl+5.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This is one of my favorite knits so far (so favorite I made sure to add it to my <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/MummaMary/honey-cowl">Ravelry</a> page). It was quick and easy, but it's still pretty. And the yarn is a...ma....zing. It's <a href="http://madelinetosh.com/store/index.php/yarns/tosh-merino-dk.html">Madelinetosh Merino DK</a> in Cosmic Wanderlust. I bought it as my souvenir from Purl Soho on a trip this summer, and there's still one more ball to make into a hat. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4bFJpDbgvgJS-QC5RyEmQBq2qLKOyy5tjydx_rJ5VBQilE522N4gg7TkexhR6n_Jl9yYch-eIk6haaHoPCxr-TDn5xiGqRlgJbMWhBYZhe7mrE8fGEpmiGeEuJ2CjUU0271yXR7IhuSY/s1600/honey+cowl+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4bFJpDbgvgJS-QC5RyEmQBq2qLKOyy5tjydx_rJ5VBQilE522N4gg7TkexhR6n_Jl9yYch-eIk6haaHoPCxr-TDn5xiGqRlgJbMWhBYZhe7mrE8fGEpmiGeEuJ2CjUU0271yXR7IhuSY/s1600/honey+cowl+4.jpg" height="542" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Or I might have to just make a second Honey Cowl for the little girl. She loved wearing it and it's so cute on her! And seriously, I'm completely unable to say no to this face.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
So fair warning: this post is frustrating. I'm frustrated, therefore I'm trying to get it out by posting here, which may end up with you being frustrated. But you were warned.<br />
<br />
I bought this layer cake the second it hit the shop. I'm obsessed with Tula Pink because her prints look absolutely insane but beautiful. Who wouldn't love a giant Parisian ship pompadour print?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgPKNC9eOY3a1rXe81-cvo96qIChFbtYvOqNMAZyK7pOjJl31iXB7LcR9ix7Qx5orDZArDzemb2ao7iTdrr9D50wlYek-yo4NYy-FcrbSdFz3Szd1zcw6PjjKYqnhRn690iavTxacewYE/s1600/TP01_Sprout.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgPKNC9eOY3a1rXe81-cvo96qIChFbtYvOqNMAZyK7pOjJl31iXB7LcR9ix7Qx5orDZArDzemb2ao7iTdrr9D50wlYek-yo4NYy-FcrbSdFz3Szd1zcw6PjjKYqnhRn690iavTxacewYE/s1600/TP01_Sprout.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Naturally, I jumped on the chance to get a little bit of a whole line. I had grand visions of making a quilt with just this line (something I never do and feels very exotic to me), but the longer I look at all these crazy prints together, the less convinced I am that I'm in love. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidHOfRD7oHfCzWNA8wUM8qhiXy75H25RUv6SAMAg_z58KUlm4i6PG5yUtHGQ_Q6q2sv6QeDCdcItPbDoEPhItB10Uvuz3y_Ie2vj49HTy-EHkxIE8WuJNuuRzX9s666FPk8Oi0jg0owSM/s1600/b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidHOfRD7oHfCzWNA8wUM8qhiXy75H25RUv6SAMAg_z58KUlm4i6PG5yUtHGQ_Q6q2sv6QeDCdcItPbDoEPhItB10Uvuz3y_Ie2vj49HTy-EHkxIE8WuJNuuRzX9s666FPk8Oi0jg0owSM/s1600/b.jpg" height="556" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
There are absolute hits, like this blue camping scene, but then it's next to these pastel pinks to the left and melons and oranges to the right. I just don't think it works for me! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhth1bT3N8bVREnAzy4rWlFAiHdX2CXA0En1sEOtZh5EVxUq7Xx8n5R5zCXmy2Wok0-pdmgAfFYCFq42jziw0PLAC2smqcN4PYeWoauWAPfEFP5p6-CfTHrEVirUhG_Rn_EIbyRQcu1P1Q/s1600/c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhth1bT3N8bVREnAzy4rWlFAiHdX2CXA0En1sEOtZh5EVxUq7Xx8n5R5zCXmy2Wok0-pdmgAfFYCFq42jziw0PLAC2smqcN4PYeWoauWAPfEFP5p6-CfTHrEVirUhG_Rn_EIbyRQcu1P1Q/s1600/c.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And I've already got a Staple dress that I made from the navy deer print, but that pink one above makes my brain hurt.<br />
<br />
So now I have to decide whether I want to abandon my plan to make one quilt out of all these, or to scrap the original plan and come up with a new quilt idea. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGS6E46xIhXIAYmqw5Zqdq-hqA8Cb0U44cPWHSG7wNZATklE19MiIOL9myl8sPXdTih0P9BY_OiPQr9hCwEEpA1p1byFFr3ABleb4kQbwB_9riKJbpn9abr3rFdPkqxd89rhtD_DrQkl0/s1600/B1253+Imagine_Quilts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGS6E46xIhXIAYmqw5Zqdq-hqA8Cb0U44cPWHSG7wNZATklE19MiIOL9myl8sPXdTih0P9BY_OiPQr9hCwEEpA1p1byFFr3ABleb4kQbwB_9riKJbpn9abr3rFdPkqxd89rhtD_DrQkl0/s1600/B1253+Imagine_Quilts.jpg" height="400" width="307" /></a></div>
<br />
The original plan was to make the cover quilt from <a href="http://oldredbarnco.blogspot.com/2014/07/my-book-imagine-quilts-officially-out.html">Dana's Imagine Quilts.</a> I was thinking of using some dark grey sashing and maybe a navy background for the round bits. But I'm not sure I want to put all the effort into those curved seams if I'm not sure I'll absolutely love the result.<br />
<br />
My other thoughts are to do a <a href="http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2012/02/sparkle-punch-quilt-finished.html">Sparkle Punch</a> quilt a la <a href="http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/">Oh Fransson</a>! Or maybe a plus quilt similar to <a href="http://filminthefridge.com/2012/09/27/rainbow-scraps-quilt/">this one from Film in the Fridge</a>. Both are fairly simple and quick to make, and would break up the prints so they aren't so in your face. <br />
<br />
Anyone have any thoughts? I'm pretty open to suggestions at this point because I want to get this done so I like the fabric again!<br />
<br />

<br />
Remember back during the summer when I joined the New Blogger's Blog Hop hosted by <a href="http://plumandjune.blogspot.com/">Plum and June</a>? A few of those bloggers joined up to make the <a href="http://neverjustjennifer.blogspot.com/p/round-trip-quilts.html">Round Trip Quilts</a> round robin bee. I've already send my center out to Chelsea at <a href="http://patchthegiraffe.blogspot.com/">Patch the Giraffe</a>, and I'm super excited to see what she does with it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRjsCB2s83qVO6qZcS3EdsFQzyR2m6-nsS3dJArqNOjtt6QRWrvAlJI4RnjEJxaZNuLxzPYegWyGXIoD0toKfr_AFyLl5TC4VBdwhvSYt4EwuEypWP6U7wJOA6Fsl7wVGVPay1_avL5ck/s1600/a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRjsCB2s83qVO6qZcS3EdsFQzyR2m6-nsS3dJArqNOjtt6QRWrvAlJI4RnjEJxaZNuLxzPYegWyGXIoD0toKfr_AFyLl5TC4VBdwhvSYt4EwuEypWP6U7wJOA6Fsl7wVGVPay1_avL5ck/s1600/a.jpg" height="476" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This center (the four blue/grey stars on yellow) was started by Leanne at <a href="http://devotedquilter.blogspot.com/">Devoted Quilter</a>, and I was a bit stumped by it at first. As part of our package, we sent along notebooks with notes about our likes, dislikes, ideas for the quilts, etc., and Leanne said she wanted us to just do our thing and not to be scared of using any colors or prints, but to keep it stars. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihhFiewn_DaCASqias-OluTUUvQT4y834E18n7QSfIObL6HcUhzS37yJ7NUYs2ClBw19f7Grk5_TqI0-hr8HRe88UU17qU77hU7tx1vEqm-Q61ftfA8blBT7cCQrjKk-nu0ER56clRMGg/s1600/bb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihhFiewn_DaCASqias-OluTUUvQT4y834E18n7QSfIObL6HcUhzS37yJ7NUYs2ClBw19f7Grk5_TqI0-hr8HRe88UU17qU77hU7tx1vEqm-Q61ftfA8blBT7cCQrjKk-nu0ER56clRMGg/s1600/bb.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
So I knew I wanted to add a lot of color, partly because that's my thing, but also so it doesn't stick to one color scheme too early in the quilt. I decided to do tiny little stars along two sides, but was pondering how to add more than six colors/prints, when my friend suggested I do some <a href="http://bumblebeansinc.com/">Victoria Findlay Wolfe</a>-esque centers. Normally, I wouldn't throw that much crazy at a quilt that wasn't mine, but I figured in such small amounts, it would be perfect.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrcJF1JJOTNeQpGsZmYITl6V0HUr7hjSX68LUMKVAHHs0-7YaOy5Wzi4-osW86EIeLJv_q8jI_mx2ykTSJFFC-QLjxsAVJTJpo47Q-2zR2FUzz58g9DqgEOjWcXOrZ8sEKD6Jwc39cIUY/s1600/c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrcJF1JJOTNeQpGsZmYITl6V0HUr7hjSX68LUMKVAHHs0-7YaOy5Wzi4-osW86EIeLJv_q8jI_mx2ykTSJFFC-QLjxsAVJTJpo47Q-2zR2FUzz58g9DqgEOjWcXOrZ8sEKD6Jwc39cIUY/s1600/c.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I pieced the centers out of my tiniest scraps, then trimmed them down to 2.5 inches. Then made flying geese for the points and trimmed them down to 2.5 inches wide. It was a challenge working with such small pieces, but sewing bigger and trimming down made it a lot more accurate.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxyOwH7-hrp7ilhBc7RqfkE-37hu0bUVWGKLX-rNC75m-DOTe_I5tLPJpqkxTEsWTXaEBmiMPxPc9wvHKBkwdTSHl_3IhUBSFk7DUbfVGhQXF5qwwj4bpnoX1Em7LFBs0q9JWJKTnIGX4/s1600/cc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxyOwH7-hrp7ilhBc7RqfkE-37hu0bUVWGKLX-rNC75m-DOTe_I5tLPJpqkxTEsWTXaEBmiMPxPc9wvHKBkwdTSHl_3IhUBSFk7DUbfVGhQXF5qwwj4bpnoX1Em7LFBs0q9JWJKTnIGX4/s1600/cc.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I'll be sending this one off to Chelsea as soon as I can get to the post office. And soon I'll be getting Jennifer's (of <a href="http://neverjustjennifer.blogspot.com/">Never Just Jennifer</a>) <a href="http://neverjustjennifer.blogspot.com/2014/09/my-center-block-round-trip-quilts.html">center</a>. I was in love with it from the start and can't wait to see it in real life. <br />

</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
So I work in a fabric store. It's pretty much like being told you have to browse for eight hours before spending any money. There's a lot that I want, and my wish list just gets longer every time we get new bolts of fabric in, but I'm trying to not blow every paycheck the second I get it. <br />
<br />
And in the spirit of spending smaller amounts of money, I got the <a href="http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/2014/01/new-mini-hex-n-more-mini-patterns.html">Mini Hex N More ruler</a>. I get to see how I like it before buying the regular sized rulers, because those are obviously on the wishlist too. And I figured it would be perfect for cutting out mini hexies for some EPP that I might get around to someday.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHBOYVT7QTUqfTD9oHbd7umAIgy0uJdUqcoK4LebTJ-TAE2bgtVhpU0cplHf2QjHYG2aWn-2mJ5glNvs8Lx0z4I79wVfRr18k4olHsjYdt4Slv4oMsXdSGnoHe1Ap7GxnxQuNgHq4RI1g/s1600/c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHBOYVT7QTUqfTD9oHbd7umAIgy0uJdUqcoK4LebTJ-TAE2bgtVhpU0cplHf2QjHYG2aWn-2mJ5glNvs8Lx0z4I79wVfRr18k4olHsjYdt4Slv4oMsXdSGnoHe1Ap7GxnxQuNgHq4RI1g/s1600/c.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
After storing the ruler in my bag for a couple weeks (read: it's so little I completely lost it) I finally pulled out my box of medium-sized scraps and decided to see if I could put together some pinwheels.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimaYjokkzfEHGii7duxVDGn_R5sIXgPpI2v9psZZSqvNAVprpwXzGI0JXX1d5SxqKL7euvqpczzNGySjjghrZGasIJ3v4C2jRtMc79G3THAcqjTVokQEzr_jwxiVWcIfOzf4VqVZ1tDhE/s1600/b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimaYjokkzfEHGii7duxVDGn_R5sIXgPpI2v9psZZSqvNAVprpwXzGI0JXX1d5SxqKL7euvqpczzNGySjjghrZGasIJ3v4C2jRtMc79G3THAcqjTVokQEzr_jwxiVWcIfOzf4VqVZ1tDhE/s1600/b.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Cutting with such a little ruler wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. I had a little snafu and cut the wrong sized triangles. I tried to fix it by making some very scant seams, but the damage was done. I tried some creative pulling and stretching and pressing, but I just ended up with bulgy centers. They did come together fast though, so that was a win.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5L1FTFDSB2ZxSAvEjZyWvaah_SQFgxqJsnfd_xSbcw7IsRLR30JlfPo1uBqXiPG3Hm2wp87759RNGKe6IB_fJkq3Nw9Ko-3Nm1dYfcwjTS4PURPc2glCYIa846JGUUSPLGQh45n82Lp4/s1600/d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5L1FTFDSB2ZxSAvEjZyWvaah_SQFgxqJsnfd_xSbcw7IsRLR30JlfPo1uBqXiPG3Hm2wp87759RNGKe6IB_fJkq3Nw9Ko-3Nm1dYfcwjTS4PURPc2glCYIa846JGUUSPLGQh45n82Lp4/s1600/d.jpg" height="514" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Here's the next batch of pinwheel parts, now with the proper triangles, ready to go. I think the first set will get quilted to death and maybe made into a pouch or book cover. And after this, I think I'll make a mini out of little hexies and triangles.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Here's a super quick post, mostly because I made this quilt under a deadline and shipped it out to the opposite coast before I could get a good day to take pictures outside. And light on pictures, means a short post, because who really wants to read a novel about a quilt? No one. But a picture book, absolutely.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I blew a gift card a while back on a couple books that had just come out. One was <a href="http://www.diaryofaquilter.com/2014/04/fabulously-fast-quilts-and-quilting-tips.html">Amy Smart's Fabulously Fast Quilts</a>. I'm really pleased with that decision, because a week later I realized that I had nothing to send a friend for their baby shower. And this Buzz-saw pattern was one of my favorite sneaky short cuts in the book, so perfect time to try it out.<br />
<br />
I absolutely loved this pattern. I had all the blocks sewn up in a day, plus some extras that I decided to cut out. Day two, was putting them all together and making binding. And the quilting was a short evening of sewing with friends. I used a new quilting pattern, a squared loop, which is perfect with the graph paper print. <br />

The parents are both science-types, and no doubt their son will also be a genius, so this fabric from <a href="http://seemaryquilt.blogspot.com/2014/07/friday-finish-on-saturday-chicopee.html">Birch Organic</a>s was the perfect line. Normally I don't go for a whole line in a quilt (said the woman who just made a <a href="http://seemaryquilt.blogspot.com/2014/07/friday-finish-on-saturday-chicopee.html">Chicopee quilt</a>) but this was the time for quickness. I didn't have time for figuring out a color scheme and pulling fabric. <br />
<br />
This also turned out to be a great idea I had, because this fabric is the softest, most buttery, heaven to work with fabric. It presses so well, and crinkled into the cuddliest quilt. I really want to buy all Birch and clothe myself in it. (for real guys.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWImFwA__yjLyjBaR-Dkyj3fSBPXGkV5HR041Cm1EXTBd0dTi5yMv8e-uRWHIEvDP8oLVboMAFKS6zmAjjX26IXG624iwVUGqhiopHcKL6JZC4u9hXVkIO01sCXE-DEgMvT-ASUlnDo78/s1600/b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWImFwA__yjLyjBaR-Dkyj3fSBPXGkV5HR041Cm1EXTBd0dTi5yMv8e-uRWHIEvDP8oLVboMAFKS6zmAjjX26IXG624iwVUGqhiopHcKL6JZC4u9hXVkIO01sCXE-DEgMvT-ASUlnDo78/s1600/b.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
One of the most fun parts was making the label. I knew, as a baby quilt, this would get washed a hundred times, and a fabric marker might fade or bleed. And since I'm not usually a label person, I got really nervous that whatever I picked would be the wrong marker, and again, had no time for testing every marker in the store. <br />
<br />
So, I just decided to pull out the embroidery floss and stitched up a label. I absolutely love it, because I got to color-match my thread to the fabric. And, I'm pretty sure that the floss will lose it's color about the same time as the fabric disintegrates. <br />
<br />
This quilt did make it to the shower, and with a few days to spare. It has yet to meet it's owner, but I know it will be loved. <br />

<br />
There's so much sewing happening here, I just don't have enough pictures to show you all of it! I need a live in photographer, or maybe just a remote shutter control. The latter is probably cheaper to maintain. <br />
<br />
In the meantime, here's some progress on my mermaid. See that little bit of red across her face? Yep, that's it. But I did manage to get the rest of the colors I was missing for this, so I can just sit down and finish her now. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinaDXJ4QfZrAEuWXFDPxD50qpsl-YI8PUAk2sROYWknavnqY1R5J7XpKdaqMiuloilvcTD7-jSrKKnjWKYey9hfJLT7OpFWOPhju5Evau_xqemSIkDQ9-GU4J3G3ErROW6ngGj2rDsmaw/s1600/c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinaDXJ4QfZrAEuWXFDPxD50qpsl-YI8PUAk2sROYWknavnqY1R5J7XpKdaqMiuloilvcTD7-jSrKKnjWKYey9hfJLT7OpFWOPhju5Evau_xqemSIkDQ9-GU4J3G3ErROW6ngGj2rDsmaw/s1600/c.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And while I was shopping for the last of my colors, I decided to just buy another thread organizer and more plastic cards to wind the thread. I have one of these somewhere absolutely stuffed with thread, but cannot find it. It's extra large, so will take a bit longer to fill, but I still have a bunch of floss tucked away in baggies and drawers just waiting to be wound.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMAR9LHbdUcz_xwni7imjOS45eNsxHXIyE1AbzOvlqSW3zrtJ_cqPwjye0QmZB-v0GxLhBxyDJMTewHvfalAKgsmnK5JcY73HS6YNwIBXD_R8yWPxlGXBRVRsJuqeJCa7NYv2d0iCiYDI/s1600/a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMAR9LHbdUcz_xwni7imjOS45eNsxHXIyE1AbzOvlqSW3zrtJ_cqPwjye0QmZB-v0GxLhBxyDJMTewHvfalAKgsmnK5JcY73HS6YNwIBXD_R8yWPxlGXBRVRsJuqeJCa7NYv2d0iCiYDI/s1600/a.jpg" height="482" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And I finally started on some holiday crafting. Half of our extended family celebrates Christmas on Thanksgiving, so it tends to sneak up on me. Hopefully this year I won't be binding and burying threads on the drive down to Connecticut.<br />
<br />
What are your holiday crafting plans? I usually make a big list then realize I should have started months earlier!<br />
<br />

Summer break is over! Everyone in this house is excited for school, and I'm excited to get back to a normal schedule. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibxGnH84NZRe3VbsrArEOLFHtW49bCl64VBs9EcBhyf50753l8OIyjXTSZ9qgefyweP-xhgDctTYI1bcccLinjqrpo4roo1xWZSDFErOZ6RadiuywH_lh3pzXktlcXWRDtbmyKcg9k7ZI/s1600/d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibxGnH84NZRe3VbsrArEOLFHtW49bCl64VBs9EcBhyf50753l8OIyjXTSZ9qgefyweP-xhgDctTYI1bcccLinjqrpo4roo1xWZSDFErOZ6RadiuywH_lh3pzXktlcXWRDtbmyKcg9k7ZI/s1600/d.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
There was a lot of sewing this summer, but I did a lot of non-sewing crafts too. I got back out my cross stitch and found this awesome pattern online. I'm not sure who made it, and the website's all in Italian, but I'm really glad they did. I started with Ariel, but they have all the Disney princesses done pin-up style. (I've got them all pinned on my<a href="http://www.pinterest.com/ferilyn/cross-stitch/"> Pinterest board</a> if you want to start your own).<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Of course, stitching means that there's little embroidery floss tumbleweeds popping up. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I was trying to think of what to do with this once it's done. It's not exactly something I'd hang in the dining room with the family pictures. I was thinking maybe of sewing it into a bag. Or maybe stitching up all of them and making a wall hanging for my bathroom. Still undecided, but it's taking a while to make, so I have plenty of time to figure it out. <br />

I'm so glad I jumped at the chance to join <a href="http://quiltyhabit.blogspot.com/">Quilty Habit's</a> <a href="http://quiltyhabit.blogspot.com/p/orange-peel-qal.html">Orange Peel Quilt-a-long</a>. It's something that I've wanted to do for a while, and I'm really happy with the results. Like, really happy. I can't wait to figure out where this will hang in my house. I'm thinking my bedroom, but we'll have to actually paint first. It'll give me time to add the hang sleeve.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://quiltyhabit.blogspot.com/p/orange-peel-qal.html" target="_blank"><img alt="Orange Peel QAL!" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj79qPjFgXWaZu3SqJNXdMA-fM47Nxn513-8HQFjYdkYeAHtWWyg4EX7Rr6dix7aBIJ9vTTWhfcplbg7TAK6dIDKEYPNeXqhcRJiDAsvp9IyxBGw6yRw88nIsAbyToonfKX34kKWvEMbcAq/s1600/Orange+Peel+QAL.jpg" /> </a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I posted about a million pictures to Instagram while making it. I knew I wanted a rainbow of peels, but couldn't figure out the layout, whether to add more, whether to machine sew them down or hand stitch... It just went on and on. Thanks so much to all the great advice I got, I was just so scared of screwing it up since I loved it so much.<br />
<br />
The rows won the layout contest. The rainbow was more obviously rainbow-y when you lined them all up, and it kind of reminded me of my love or <a href="http://www.orlakiely.com/usa/">Orla Kiely</a>. Had I picked a different color scheme, I would have had to track down some Orla sheets to use as backing. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4bpI9rIHBTvu0NLALpla4PJnCLyoT-gOd_UbVvTvb5PtxQV-ZLuJIarbgyZpv6xbKOa89WTn5NLFY1VJz9l8mkQ_3ckkvQn1Bl-vMz0OR1FjY9rBtVkiz1jDxY1H1TBmjpa7IjwZC-Ec/s1600/c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4bpI9rIHBTvu0NLALpla4PJnCLyoT-gOd_UbVvTvb5PtxQV-ZLuJIarbgyZpv6xbKOa89WTn5NLFY1VJz9l8mkQ_3ckkvQn1Bl-vMz0OR1FjY9rBtVkiz1jDxY1H1TBmjpa7IjwZC-Ec/s1600/c.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I ended up quilting ghost peels in all the blank spots. For the two center rows, I used a rainbow of threads and the outer borders just got white thread. Then I went back in and did some dense straight lines so the peels would really pop out. They definitely pop, but you can't really see the straight lines. I think I'm okay with that, but it was a little bummer that that portion of work wasn't obvious.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipPBM4DIToTWI8Q7JqIZto5_TwzzAVSjs7txeZcFWFZLowO2J5655of8FuxKrHYxy-UdEqL5jhCaQdiSC8WOLSj_XXMrsx7Ks5daK7ZJ9J1o8MNx1cMQTOu8aFRuz6oIAw0XBlRWAh2qY/s1600/b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipPBM4DIToTWI8Q7JqIZto5_TwzzAVSjs7txeZcFWFZLowO2J5655of8FuxKrHYxy-UdEqL5jhCaQdiSC8WOLSj_XXMrsx7Ks5daK7ZJ9J1o8MNx1cMQTOu8aFRuz6oIAw0XBlRWAh2qY/s1600/b.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
You <i>can </i>see the lines when the kids decide the quilt is a hat....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7zsvnpkKseg1zLfSkyaON3m5EpBpZK3nPrGNtcFpCJV4At7X_pEbkqnGHV_C_9fU25WzbPLQDv__VanhWuK6VIYAEjgDCVw_JSfAlk6tmSrFC6kxd6eqIPcLbFfxvsQ-1o6nOjt235-0/s1600/a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7zsvnpkKseg1zLfSkyaON3m5EpBpZK3nPrGNtcFpCJV4At7X_pEbkqnGHV_C_9fU25WzbPLQDv__VanhWuK6VIYAEjgDCVw_JSfAlk6tmSrFC6kxd6eqIPcLbFfxvsQ-1o6nOjt235-0/s1600/a.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I still have to measure it to figure out which category of the <a href="http://quiltyhabit.blogspot.com/p/orange-peel-qal.html">QAL </a>to enter, but you'll definitely see me in there somewhere. And there's still plenty of time to get your orange peel on; the final link up is from August 23 - September 8, so that's almost a month! Do it! It's fun, and there's prizes!<br />

<br />
So this one time, a friend brought over a book and asked if I'd like to make a turtle. It was late, and turtle production wasn't really on my radar, but how do you say no? <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpKr7k5NRHDJrBDO-K_ZA8bNxCYA3oFq4opgOlcTni2aic5PwW5oW5lGEBCF0B4FFE165NZ1hFDJM9Koa6CgjG8Yl63t3Wh2M8BNpBjvgvzmSDS0mFOTJScGB6UyvFQu2DuPiPuuM-0Eg/s1600/da.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpKr7k5NRHDJrBDO-K_ZA8bNxCYA3oFq4opgOlcTni2aic5PwW5oW5lGEBCF0B4FFE165NZ1hFDJM9Koa6CgjG8Yl63t3Wh2M8BNpBjvgvzmSDS0mFOTJScGB6UyvFQu2DuPiPuuM-0Eg/s1600/da.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
At the last guild meeting, said friend had won a copy of a really cute book, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Sewing-Tales-Stitch-Love-Storytelling/dp/1440235198/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371677509&sr=8-1&keywords=kerry+goulder">Sewing Tales to Stitch and Love by Kerry Goulder</a>, and thought that it would be fun to give some of the creations for gifts. But first, we had to see if we could make them. Both of us are quilters with some success at garment and bag sewing, but stuffies are an entirely different area of 3D sewing. The turtle seemed easiest, so we dipped our toes in with that.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2MDEFkTvc-sshblR4yFFr4-CEbob_8t3D8Yq0sw86daySuNZldd4XdJfsgg3If1myGDbYqSRqwlyorb9p_LSGvI2Q2Ev56rAu1pb07vWGzj3yZu8gRSJ78f49XnSNwM0Ri_2l0FqPWw0/s1600/d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2MDEFkTvc-sshblR4yFFr4-CEbob_8t3D8Yq0sw86daySuNZldd4XdJfsgg3If1myGDbYqSRqwlyorb9p_LSGvI2Q2Ev56rAu1pb07vWGzj3yZu8gRSJ78f49XnSNwM0Ri_2l0FqPWw0/s1600/d.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It turned out pretty awesome, even though there were a few steps where we both just stared at each other and scratched heads. (How could it not turn out awesome when the shell features a map of both North America and Australia like they've always been next to each other?) We were a little surprised by turning the tiniest cylinders, but luckily, I had a turning tool on hand. And we learned part way through that a fairly short stitch length is best when making things you'll stuff and stress the seams. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4SZ8rHiNE1FRvGuWs8khTgY4TXRISpbEIMiTYrkLN02jn6NedDio-5ODi-FigXqZ1o5TbTtiNHoqHMui-LTkISQAGClsVxq5cEA6UH4cRvqN_WvDhuI6DXqrV9ra3tr-iZAhZtGF1fSw/s1600/b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4SZ8rHiNE1FRvGuWs8khTgY4TXRISpbEIMiTYrkLN02jn6NedDio-5ODi-FigXqZ1o5TbTtiNHoqHMui-LTkISQAGClsVxq5cEA6UH4cRvqN_WvDhuI6DXqrV9ra3tr-iZAhZtGF1fSw/s1600/b.jpg" height="516" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
But all in all, he's a pretty handsome little fellow. He's whole, with no stuffing falling out, and all the body parts are in the right spots. He also survived a day as a three-year-old's favorite thing, which isn't easy. She named him Map Turtle, and was a little confused when he went to live with someone else. <br />
<br />

<br />
Hopefully back to some real quilt posts soon! I've sewn so much, but taken only shoddy Instagram pictures, so hopefully I'll get some time soon to take out the big camera and throw a quilt on the lawn.<br />

It's kind of a low volume with pops of color kind of WIP Wednesday. I got my <a href="http://quiltyhabit.blogspot.com/p/orange-peel-qal.html">Orange Peel QAL</a> top sewn together last night, but it still needs top and bottom rows of LV squares, plus any borders I decide to add. I love it though. I just want to quilt it because it looks like it will be so much fun. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
And I started on this <a href="http://madelinetosh.com/store/index.php/honey-cowl.html">Honey Cowl</a>, even though it's pushing 90 degrees these days. I got this yummy <a href="http://madelinetosh.com/store/index.php/yarns/tosh-merino-dk.html">Tosh Merino DK</a> in Cosmic Wonderlust from <a href="http://www.purlsoho.com/purl">Purl Soho</a> on our last vacation to NYC, and I've been trying to figure out what to do with it. A cowl will be perfect since it's so soft. <br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I really love this quilt. I think it's because it's a combination of all the things that I normally love, mixed with a lot of firsts. <br />
<br />
It's one of the first times that I bought a whole line of fabric to use together and actually used it. (Sorry fat quarter bundle of Comma that I love but has been on my shelf for a year.) The recipients have a lack of color in their lives, and I wanted to give them some rich color, but not blow their minds. So Chicopee was perfect. There's that amazing citron, but also navy and dark green. It's low volume in some prints, but loud in others. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfY35qyGeTnB4EXg6-xEj9cH-ej1mmh9zhdJI5s-be9ocTqFw9Q2IuOjjIZ7C7cPdWmJUWVWkTLFflUszqFMcWhnexjBLuK4HUO8bs1dXnPlkhOPLaIBc_82p2zoNrLqQ0yCJZBZa6NlY/s1600/c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfY35qyGeTnB4EXg6-xEj9cH-ej1mmh9zhdJI5s-be9ocTqFw9Q2IuOjjIZ7C7cPdWmJUWVWkTLFflUszqFMcWhnexjBLuK4HUO8bs1dXnPlkhOPLaIBc_82p2zoNrLqQ0yCJZBZa6NlY/s1600/c.jpg" height="425" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And to balance all the color, I used Essex yarn dyed black linen, which is the first time using linen in a quilt. I absolutely love the texture, and that the neutral isn't just a boring solid (though I still love a solid). I'm a little nervous because I started using 1/4" seams before I realized that the weave was really loose. I'm planning on just quilting it to death so there's no chance of critical fraying. And I didn't realize there was so much stretchiness in the fabric until I started pressing. Again, I'm going to quilt it to death, which solves all problems.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqkSjZURSjWa5gHcrweXROMEyx2baPfXTZyLtOPM9GnCqt1-zbus9EA6Q8KsiiwD26ZS07QDhBIXTJwhyphenhyphenEPi3bSGx4Ikyko87CLgA1DUiuhd8B5nbgk8BtPpZ1po8xlDYIHipD2v5sjDo/s1600/b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqkSjZURSjWa5gHcrweXROMEyx2baPfXTZyLtOPM9GnCqt1-zbus9EA6Q8KsiiwD26ZS07QDhBIXTJwhyphenhyphenEPi3bSGx4Ikyko87CLgA1DUiuhd8B5nbgk8BtPpZ1po8xlDYIHipD2v5sjDo/s1600/b.jpg" height="425" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Last first, it's the first time my quilt math really worked out the first time. I was trying to figure out what pattern to use with these fabrics, and a quick Google search of Chicopee quilts brought up this <a href="http://kelbysews.blogspot.com/2013/11/the-crossing-easy-quilt-tutorial.html">Crossing pattern</a> by <a href="http://kelbysews.blogspot.com/">KelbySews</a>. It was perfect, but I wanted the color to be on the crosses, so it didn't make sense to center them in the middle of the block and have all the seams be linen to linen. So I changed the block to be a cross in the corner with two large borders of linen on top and a side. Little change, but I managed to calculate out everything, including seam allowances, and it worked the first time. Nothing ever works the first time for me! <br />
<br />
So now I just have to quilt and bind it, but I'm not sure whether I want to use the backing options I already have, or search for something else. I'm letting it simmer for a while until the choice becomes clear. <br />
